Website Design E-Commerce (online shop)

Using a product listing system and shopping cart you can have the ability to sell online.

Processing Payments

Depending on the volume of items you forecast selling and your budget, there are different options to consider which enable you to sell via a website.

A payment gateway is a system which securely processes customer payments, effectively linking your website to your bank account.

The least expensive is to use third party payment gateways such as PayPal or WorldPay. These can be implemented into your site and payments are taken via their system. This solution relieves you of any liability concerns you may have with taking payments under your own system (described above) and you pay a percentage commissions on the transaction amounts.

An alternative mid range solution popular to most clients is a third party system which enables you to take payments directly to your Internet Merchant Bank Account (see below). Instead of paying a large lump sum or commissions on sales, you pay a fixed monthly amount of around £50.

The most expensive solution is to build a system into your website. Due to security this requires complex implementations.

For bespoke and some third party solutions you will need an "Internet Merchant Bank Account" which accepts online payments. Prices on these vary and can be obtained from your preferred bank, but we will advise you first if acquiring one of these is necessary or not.
